I’m Janet Munro — entrepreneur, storyteller, and host of Roots and Branches: Adoption Stories.

My journey as a birth mother in 1970, and later reuniting with my son, inspired me to create a platform where adoption stories are told with honesty and compassion. The goal of this podcast is to tell stories from all points of view – the adoptee; the birth mother and or father; the adoptive parents; the interaction of new families. We want to give people the freedom and peace of mind to be able to talk freely about their experiences. Every adoption has a story that will affect others. You are not alone. Roots and Branches is a passion project, sustained through my work as an Independent Business Owner with ACN since 2013. ACN provides essential services people use every day — the income I generate here sponsors the podcast, allowing me to keep building awareness and community.

Earlier in my career, I co-founded and grew Munro’s Furnishing into a multimillion-dollar custom furniture business over 46 years. We learned to innovate to stand out — including creating the “world’s largest rocking horse,” a Guinness World Record feature. Prior to that, I spent eight years in the hospitality industry, advancing from desk clerk at Winnipeg’s Hotel Fort Garry to Assistant Manager at the Hyatt Regency Toronto.

At every stage, my focus has been on building, connecting, and creating impact — whether through business, advocacy, or storytelling.
